THE DRUNKARD

Contributed by Ravi on Sunday, 30th March 2003 @ 02:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

A HUNDRED CURIOUS EYES SPIED AND PEEPED,
WAITING FOR A WILD DRUNKEN BRAWL,
AS THE TATTERED MAN ENTERED THE RICKETY STEPS,
OF A TYPICAL DIRTY,GOSSIPY BOMBAY 'CHAWL'.

IF ANYBODY HAD HEART WITH TIME TOO SWELL,
THE DRUNKARD HAD A TALE TO TELL.
AS HE SAT LISTENING TO A WEDDING BLAST,
NOSTALGIES CAME OF HIS GLORIOUS PAST.
HE COULD THEN THROW ABOUT HIS WEIGHT,
HE WAS ENVIOUSLY CALLED ONE OF THE GREAT.
THE FAILURES VANQUISHED IN A DARK RECESS,
HE BECAME AN AURA OF UNDIMINISHED SUCESS.

BUT ALAS!FATE UNLEASHED A STORM DARK AS NIGHT,
HE DEGENERATED INTO A PAUPER OVERNIGHT.
AS THE GRIEF TURNED INTO A SLOW TORTUROUS THROTTLE,
HE SOON BECAME SLAVE OF THE COMFORTING BOTTLE.

THE DRUNKARD SMILED AT THE WORLD SO CRUEL AND HAZY,
OH GOD!WHY DON'T YOU MAKE LIFE EASY!.

A great poem. I particularly like the way you 'shout' at the reader with the fact that you capitalized all letters. In email and internet jargon, all caps mean shouting! It is a great way to portray this guy. I could picture this drunk raising his voice as most drunks do. Thanks for sharing this with us.
