Horror Of Prosperity

Clinging to the window of my new home
My apathetic eyes scanned out,
searching for nothing In particular,
yet eager to see the unseen.
Through the pouring shower
Eyes spotted a couple drenched
To their skinny bones, staring
At me - with oceans of sorrow.
Quivering with terror, eyes filled with
Tear, they spoke to me with rapidness, tongue
I failed to grasp, but their tone of pleading
crunched my heart.
In time I gathered, bits and pieces
of their gestures, chattering and all;
wretchedly they said - the home that is mine
was theirs not long ago, progress that
brought prosperity snatched all that was theirs;
and made it all mine.
A hole in my thatch roof, afforded them the nest;
petite pair of sparrows they are, shattered by my fortune,
today marooned without a home, me a prosperous man
watched them cry in despair – loveless and alone,
from within my new home - bearing notches
of gruesome guilt on my heart.
Little pair of sparrows they are, so little did I bother,
Selfishly shattered theirs to build my sweet home.

so often I find myself thinking to myself who is this "progress" for? It certainly isn't for our animals friends. Incredibly stated.
You definitely have talent.
Thank you,
