~The Years Have Flown~

Topic: FamilyPoems

I will always remember that day,
when you joined us in this world.
How happy I was to meet you,
how suddenly a deep love unfurled.

When I first held you in my arms
and looked into that tiny face
your wide eyes looking up,
brushed with angelic grace.

I knew at that moment just how special you were.......

I felt tears brimming the corners of my eyes,
those feelings I did not try to hide.
Welcoming you into our world
feeling my heart and love unfurl.

The moments soon began to fly, I sit now and softly sigh.......

It seemed in a flash you were scooting,
as fast as your elbo's would allow.
Then just as suddenly, crawling
and a few teeth to add to your beautiful smile.

Sharp teeth I found out quickly when you took a bite of my finger..

Then I heard you say your first word,
and watched you take that first step.
So many firsts I was able to share
how each new thing you learned made my heart melt.

A little dare devil you were, glint in the eye, showing no fear.......

I remember how at times you would scare me
and make my heart race in total fear.
Diving head first at age two
right off the back of the chair!

You hopped back up and shook your head to do it again.......

There were times in your young life things grew hard.
I sat many a night comforting you when you cried.
I felt the sadness you felt,
I tried to make everything for you alright.

At times failing miserably, I know........

Over the years you continued to change and grow,
and smarter by the moment you became.
Over coming life in itself
always the winner of the game.

I am so proud of you my fine young man.

Now I sit here tonight, and think of many a time
when all life had to offer, was dished out with a fine hand.
Through it all you did your best, excelled above and beyond.
With that sweet smile on your face........

Oh my how the years have flown.......

No matter how grown you tend to be,
to me dear young man you will always be my baby D.
I will remember the days of your youth
and bask in the years to come as you grow into a man.

I love you Destry!
