My Heart

My Heart

Together we watched the trees blowing in the night breeze
Feeling that the time was right I handed you a set of keys
Numbering three they reflected the moons bright light
Telling you to use them when you were ready for more insight

The first key opens the lock on the door to my life
It is not all glamour and glory, there is much strife
The second key opens the door to my soul
Behind this door you will find a room that is always full

The last key is the one to my heart
You will recognize this door right from the start
It is the one that has the warning sign
Be care with the contents because when you leave the pieces are still mine

I tell you these things so you understand how I feel
Your heart I will leave in tact also, that is how I deal
My life is mine, but now you are a daily part
Please be gentle as you get to my heart

I liked the emotional purity of this one, the elements of vulnerability and cautious regard. The metaphor of locks and doors was well placed.

Wow, poet, this was beautifully insightful. We are all so vulnerable when
handing over those keys. There are some who would not hesitate to
take advantage. Some who would not look further than their own want
and need. SOME who are so dramatically self absorbed that they only
envision how circumstance and situation affects them, but care little
for the thoughts, feelings and emotions of anyone else.

I love this write. It says so simply and yet profoundly, what we all
would love to, (in fact desperately need to) say to those who would touch
our lives. The trouble is finding the one who will heed our words and
take our emotions seriously. Beautifully put, poet.

Your poetry is always very sincere, I feel I know a lot about you after reading through your works. Your honesty and compassion for others are evident. You're not shy about sharing your emotions and feelings about relationships with others.
Keep up the great work, DW..
Hugs
Jenni
