I Want to Dream of You

I think about you all day long but it ends when I go to sleep
I don’t like being away from you, even in a slumber so deep
I avoid the comfort of my bed just to keep you in my head
Because I know as soon as I’m unconscious you’re gone
Until the break of dawn.
If I had one wish it would be to see you in my dreams,
That way you would never be away from me.

Because in my dreams we’d be together,
You wouldn’t just be a memory.
In my dreams we’d laugh forever
Not cry over what used to be
In my dreams it would be me and you
You’d love me and I’d love you too
I want to dream of you.

Everyone says to let go, that you just weren’t the one
That what you did can’t be undone
But I know you need me the way I need you
I know together we can work this through
But until that happens I guess it’s true
That if I had one wish it would be to see you in my dreams,
That way you would never be away from me

Because in my dreams we’d be together,

I guess my mind needs a break
From all the things that it can’t take
Like all the memories that make my heart ache
And all the thoughts that cause my hands to shake
But I’ll still fight the sleep, and I’ll stay awake
Because when my body shuts down it forgets about you
Trying to make me let go, but I don’t want to.
