nothing smaller could hit me harder
ten tiny fingers, ten tiny toes
another woman's child
yours
a life we talked about
plans we laid
sweet laughter and hopeful dreams
rolling into your arms, early sunrise, warm skin
murmured words and whispers of adoration
a judge declared us separated
but it seems, not fully
to see this child, your lover's baby in your arms
now I see we are not the same as we were,
and yet...we are
always apart

What a beautiful and sad poem! The description is deceptively simple and intensifies the feeling behind the words.
There are so many contrasts: the happiness and beauty of a new baby and the sorrow of separation; the hope of dreams and the disappointment of reality. Beautifully done.

Dri...from the deepest part of me I soulfully trust you KNOW how BEAUTIFUL you are...the delicacies of shades and hues of your chosen medium...words..."ten tiny fingers, ten tiny toes;" "sweet laughter and hopeful dreams; rolling into your arms, early sunrise, warm skin; murmured words and whispers of adoration;" You have it all, Dri...it took me fifty-four years to finally chuck every ******* thing the external world was telling me...to shut the door and lock this world's dysfunctional ******* out of my life and finally use my own eyes to take a look at my real "Self." I was BEAUTIFUL for fifty-four years and this dysfunctional world's lies convinced me I was ugly. All of your writings are a symphony extolling your BEAUTY, but this one is a delicate Chopin piano sonata that brings tears and a soft gentle whisp of a smile to anyone who has children and wishes for a precious child to be given to a capable, Loving and Beautiful other.
I've shared you with my other four daughters. I would have considered my Self blest if you had been my fifth.
Blessings, Dri...your star is shining brightly...I trust you know this is so...
