Mourning Dew

Grief

Eyes beg to be opened
Denied.
Rain soaking the earth
Cloaking it in sorrow
The night gave birth to a thunderous cleansing
Passionate and hot with rage
Droplets of lament painted the concrete
Pictures of grievances that scour one’s sight
Blink.
Pull, pry
Finally the eyes open
A fresh slate ready to endure
Somehow standing face to face with change
Is exhilarating, exhausting and utterly terrifying
Inhale
One foot forward, crushing beneath it the mourning dew.

Amazing piece. Wonderful concise word choice. I love the positive shift near the end.
