You're calm, clear water.
I am fire below you.
You enjoy your relaxed state,
but I’m cranking out the heat.
Pockets start to form under your surface
and I’m hotter every second.
A bubble rises from your depths,
rippling your porcelain veneer,
but I can’t stop touching your frame.
For I rise,
and you are above me.
Naturally, you soon boil.
Your face once calm, now rages unmerciful,
scolding everyone who tries to touch.
But me, I am fire.
I live to burn.
So I stay, pressing on.
Causing your vapors to float away.
I watch as your final bonds are released
and your elements become the air.
You leave me alone
to burn
until the oxygen fails
and my flame begins to fade.
Only black remains
