Standing on the terrace, I see dark clouds gathering,
All around, Sun hidden, slowly darkness is creeping.
I hear deafening thunderous noise now and then,
Roaring like a wounded and restless lion in the den.
Over there I see a streak of dazzling bright light,
Signaling the arrival of rain to every one’s delight.
Dust particles spin fast, in sudden blowing wind,
And trees sway dangerously, braving strong wind.
Any moment, conceived clouds may break into rain,
Like a pregnant woman in the grip of labour pain.
‘Rain, rain don’t go away’, ‘Little Johnnies’ pray
‘Cricket can wait; we can play some other day’.
Jubilant youngsters are ready to extend welcome;
Excited, they wait to dance to the rainfall’s rhythm.
All eyes are set upon skywards for the eventful rainfall,
To the relief of water-starved humans, the land and all.
The rise in temperature due to global warming,
And long spell of summers are very alarming.
O, Nature we appeal to your disposition humane,
To bring in more rain to relieve us of our great pain.
The clouds begin to dissipate suddenly and shockingly,
The hidden Sun exposed; again hot rays burn us cruelly.
By failing to bring in rain, you leave us in utter despair.
After raising our hopes, you betray us; it is very unfair.
