I hear a siren faint in the distance
I see a flash of female skin
I see a covered head
I feel the pounding of people’s heavy feet
I see people as they greet
I hear people talk in a foreign tongue
I hear the laughter of an African mum
I see so many different people
I notice they seem to stick
To their own culture and it’s click
In a city of many different people
From Muslim to Sikh to Christian
From Atheist to Agnostic to Jew
From Pakistan to Sudan to Sri Lanka
From India to Poland to Bosnia
From Leeds to London to Bradford
From middle the ruling class to the lows
English, Urdu to Polish
Arabic, French to urban ‘slang’
Chav, Goth to ‘Street’
Burka, tight jeans to short skirt
Business men, street cleaners to students
There are so many differences in people
It sometimes is nice to see
But can sometimes seem to me
To be a lonely place to be
All these many differences and me
Where is my place in the many?
Do I look to others to define me?
