Sittin' waitin', nothin' comin'
Birds are singin', bees are hummin'
Another look, still nothin' comin'
Except for two auld aged wummin'
Gassin' about their private lives
Drunken husbands, battered wives
And young yins who could hardly wait
Tae flee the nest and slam the gate
Nae turnin' back nor feelin' sad
For Mam who at the hands of Dad
Has had a bloody awfy life
Her only crime, a lovin' wife....
It sure seems hard to think of these
Auld wummin' young like flighty breeze
Enjoyin' life as mothers should
With children sweet and husbands good
And swappin' gossip in the shops
Then all at once the penny drops
It seems tae be the Mothers curse
Tae struggle with an empty purse
Tae feed the weans and pay the bills
While faithers oot exchangin' ills
With pals nae better than himself
In pubs they're drinkin' tae the health
Of all the wives they've left at hame
Tae feel the hurt and lay the blame
With husbands who display nae shame
In what they do from day to day.
All this I gathered from one comment
From them two auld aged wummin'.
