The Gift

Contributed by Richard1506 on Thursday, 25th June 2009 @ 03:32:03 AM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

If, by some cruel chance, or subtle twist of fate,
I should lose a present that was given far too late.
Then in the losing, my life would be destroyed;
My heart full of emptiness, replete with utter void.

If you decided that this gift you'd take away,
I could see no future, no reason left to stay.
No words could ever comfort me, no thing could make me smile.
Never consolable, my tears would fall the while.

I do know that you love me, but can also understand
That you cannot take me, and have me where I stand.
But you are so dear to me, my heart is yours alone.
Yet, in practicality, yours has turned to stone.

Now, in my darkest hour, I feel there is no hope
As I have slipped so far down life's despairing slope.
The pain of your leaving will break my heart, it's true,
For like the flower needs the sunshine, you know that I need you.

So goodbye to you, my lovely, farewell and adieu
You have your own life to lead, without me, this is true.
But please, do not forget me, for I would be with you
Since never to forever, I always needed you
