Of Mnemosyne

I, over the road a hundred miles north passing interstates, highways, and overpasses—she below walking shoal and shadowed fields, tree swept nights—a shining brooch on black lapels wavering in the wind.
She is a song in my heart, singing voiceless praise to the interminable sunrise casting uncountable color across the silver twilight of her skin, like unduly bright stars hidden in a sea of stars.
Reaching doors at midnight’s impenetrable blaze, we open thought in thought the threshold of our hearts and through the gray perennial haze of love we find in place the hand of sudden loss and the memory of lovers lost to words too strong.
She is tempo and cadence, a haggard, untamable soul led astray by an arrhythmic heart to impart the comfort of hesitant tears with sonorous glory, and the desire of years long past with sobs of anaphoric glory.
