Red Roses

That year went by in a blur
Of hateful words and bruises,
One to many red roses accepted,
And way to many excuses.
Days slipping by,
Precious seconds gone,
But all those Red Roses
Are simply living on.
They've grown all over the house
That you never let me leave,
Their dangerous beauty reminding me
Of who I used to be.
The woman I was before
I lost everything I had,
Before I was treated like a dog,
Punished when I was "bad".
You would bring me treats,
A Red Rose for every bruise,
You brought your apologies,
I lapped up each excuse.
The night I messed up on your dinner
That wasn't cooked "just right"
The nosy neighbor who just moved in
Called the police for our newest "domestic fight".
The police came and gasped at what they saw,
But they just shook their heads and took down my name,
And now the man who killed me
Is leaving red roses on my grave.
I'm trapped here for life in my prison, the grave,
Where he just got three to five....
Only five years of concrete and iron bars...
My body gets red roses for life.
