Getting by you

selfstruggles

You told me
from such an innocent age
to accept you
and sit in that self-hatred cage
you’d tell me I wasn’t good
you’d tell me I would fail
Did you like
that time I’d place another burn?
Would you smile
knowing it was only from you I’d learn?
and I’d stay chained by that
and I’d remain but an animal
It’s a hard road
to move passed you and your trial
but I see it now
to this cage, I do have a file
I can get by your whip
I can be happy, if alone
You trained me well
twenty nine before I thought of myself
at least, if I have no-one
I’ll still have a chance with my health
there is a chance to move on
there is hope for me yet.
