Your Bed

Contributed by LenaGirl on Saturday, 13th June 2009 @ 07:13:55 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

A perfect night for a long rest,
yet I didn't sleep well last night
It was the heat from your skin that kept me awake,
Not at all like the warm summer air
but hot and burning as the sun
rising off your body like incense in prayer
growing, smoldering, spilling onto me like want

Above us, the untiring moon searches for the arms of Orion
before the deep blues and purples of night mix into obsidian,
hiding the constellations behind a black, velvet sky
Colorless and starless, every strand of evening lays still
Except the rise and fall of your chest
Your breath rolling soft circles in the air as our bodies
bend and arch together to find their fit

You lift my face to meet yours...lips for tasting
Your scent fills everything
A mix of earth and lavender and rain lingers on my tongue
like carmelized sugar or guilt
You are on my skin and in my hair - inescapable; inexplicable; undeniable
What is left of the night around us grows thin, and
wrapped in the silent, sweeter spaces between us, I finally fall asleep
