I swear they would queue for death, too scared to miss out
Imagining the afterlife is ticket only, no refunds
You would think spontaneity the daughter of the devil
Euphoria a mythical place where none have ever been
Kindred spirits amass, shepherded in the state of zombie
A multitude of faceless puppets, waiting for the puppeteer
Life a series of uninspired chapters, revitalised by coffee cup
That sugar sweetened anaesthetic, that soothes and quells impulsion
What quickens the pulse in their monotonous existence?
What stimulates the mind and remedies the soul ?
If our eyes are vehicles to draw imagination
Theirs must be in traffic on a long and one way road
Living in trance, hardly ever entranced, jubilation mere extravagance
Drugged to existence with overwhelming intolerance
Too late to close the stable door, ambition long since bolted
Galloped off into the twilight never to return
Maybe abstinence makes the heart grow fonder, where nonchalence has seed
Where excitement is a frightened man, bludgeoned to submit
When finally their bell has tolled and heaven calls them in
Will God be disappointment, nothing like the one in films ?
Will they conspire to permeate the afterlife with gloom?
Or criticise the Pearly Gates on Health and Safety stance ?
I fear for all the angels if their halo's do not shine
They'll be replace by perfect clones on pure aesthetic grounds!!

Oh how I loved this poem, it just sums up everything perfectly well.
Walking dead people, without any positive feelings is what I've always called them, and how they can live with themselves is beyond me. But your poetry hit it right on the nail head Steve!
They won't change just because they are in Heaven, they'll probably take all the sad stuff up there, and ruin it for everyone else, just like they do here on earth.
Loved your poem as always.
Warm love

I like this poem and I do understand if you are referring to me. But My "condition" brings about alot of emotional burdens mostly the inability to form normal friendships with anyone. I don't mean to moan about it, its just that this is the only place I can let it out!! Anyway, great poem! |
