Ode to the Curtains

You paupers, play your flitting slalom
Around pergolas, windows; strum your pleats
Between Zeus’ column-
Orchard, a mortal harpist and nothing more.
You are no four-leaf clover lobed;
Lowly carpel, woven sects of mongrel:
A lucky denizen just to hear golden three-robed
Anasthasia make her frigid cameo
At the door in January, or Alfonso’s muffled
Blood ‘neath a ratchet of feet in legerity.
Lace curtain base, white as a maid’s ruffled
Uniform, a blooming meretricious red
Brocade above, convolve to reach the mansion's raj,
As he pales on his sofa, rearranging in his head the pieces
Of inchoate Feng Shui. And you on a breeze massage
The qualms in his god-studded visual field.
