the indian inside shall never die

"Let all that is Indian within you die!...You cannot become truly American
citizens, industrious, intelligent, cultured, civilized until the INDIAN within
you is DEAD"
Not...
Within our mind's deeps,
the indian sleeps.
Clever as coyote, and crafty as wolf
The whole US Army tried
and they suffered and died
Trying to catch Geronimo.
A pity, I agree---
But I'm sure that you see---
That's just how such matters go.
if you are part red
then I'm sure that instead
of complaining how hard life can be
in trust, you'll abide
by the indian inside
The wisdom of which, you shall see.

My stepfather was indian and he taught me many things. Useful things and I have grown up with the feeling of sadness of how the American Indian was treated. The Indians lived with nature not forcing the land to succumb to them. It's a shame we do not all live the Indian ways. Nice poem. Kudos!
Peace to ya,
