Final Farewell

It's not so much eternal
But more of a final farewell;
One last hug, some tears shed
Goodbyes in my ears, like a bell.
Holding tight to your shirt
Struggling not to cry;
Trying to be happy for you
But just barely making it by.
Maybe, I hope I am wrong
Maybe this isn't our final farewell;
A few years might pass us by
But I'll remember your voice, your eyes, your smell...
I'll hold your pictures close and
I'll imagine your soft laugh;
I think of our conversations
And horrified, I can't recall half.
although the memories are distant
You're too special to ever fade away;
"This isn't goodbye, don't you cry,
Or believe any of that," you say.
And I want to believe this isn't forever
That I will see you someday, again;
You will always be my sister, yes
You're so much more than my friend.
I'll remember your smile, eternally
And I've said my final farewell;
Tears on my cheeks, I whisper, "Don't go..."
But you walk away; what else is there to tell?
I doubt anyone has ever experienced a loss like I am right now,
But with this final farewell, I give you a piece of my heart...
This I vow.

A very sad piece. I can feel the emotional struggle. Well written.
