Day one was the beginning;
God made the earth and light.
He called the lightness ‘daytime’
and named the darkness ‘night’.
Day two was of the parting
of waters: land from sky.
Some water stayed close by the earth,
and still more rose up high.
Day three came with two more things:
dry land and plants with seeds.
From pines and oaks and birches
to lily pads and reeds.
Day four, God made the sun and moon
to govern day and night.
Pure darkness surely’d never do!
God separated light.
Day five, fish were created,
to move among the sea.
Birds were created that day, too.
to waddle, fly, and flee.
Day six was for the livestock
That trotted and that ran.
And made in God’s own image
a new creation: MAN.
The seventh day was restful,
for He was finally done.
He looked down upon all of it,
and loveth every one.
