This world is a highway to hell
I didn’t realize how far I fell
Corrupted by comforts, it’s hard to tell
Paying no mind to the conditions in which I dwell
Shackled in chains, in a cold cell
Why did I desire to feel numb?
Leads only to sadness, confusion, glum
And ultimately ashamed of what I’d become
Unaware of the consequences, the final outcome
Did I inherit this God forsaken gene?
Where’s my will power? Have I lost my spleen?
Saying words you know I didn’t mean
Today, I’m proud to be sober and clean
The progress I’ve made should be evident
If you could see into my past you’d see the evidence
There’s goodness inside, not always inherent
A child’s curiosity, with a touch of ambivalence
The things I need to know will be revealed to me in time
The bell of my heart today rings a beautiful chime
To reach new heights I’ll continue to climb
And learn all the lessons before I sublime
