A Year in Haiku

A spring thunderstorm --
large drops slam the petals of
tiny pink flowers.
Black roads crest the hill --
the distant trees dance and sway
through the waves of heat.
Leaves silently fall --
a poet's blank paper sits
under a still pen.
The night owl waits
for any sign of dinner --
cold, the first snowfall.

I'm reminded of this haiku which many people no doubt have heard.
haikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense
Refrigerator
In reality, they aren't easy though. I really like your third one about the dying leaves of fall, and the inability of the poet to become inspired by it. Are you saying that life is the inspiration for poets, and opposed to death? I would guess so. Lovely work. Yours has been a year well spent. |
