Disciplined lips
win under stringencies,
upbraid as they braid up the flowing scars,
mordant touch unreprised by any selfsame
hard candy. Cale the skin, kill the red slug
as if it were a halophile.
Principled lips
are the tenets ribbed pillars,
as they shade the veld, tether those
bloodied mangroves which have gotten away.
Children cry and scream for a day’s length;
twine up their demons,
floss them with something green and fresh,
then push them out,
lest they are no less clingy
than sticklers garnished
with wands of dynamite
pretty, salamandrine, explosive
gimmicks. Let these lips kiss
under roof, where the mandates swelter
in parenthood, mend the cuts and even the guard
hairs. Vibrations are comfort,
the Earth fleshes
compassionate worms.
