Love’s Mockery

anguished

Her smile, those eyes
the most beautiful dream
an unreal angel
a mere illusion I’ve seen
her touch, her love
now a mockery and tease
such a powerful feeling
it brought me to my knees
How could a dream be so strong
to make life feel so wrong
and the colour of life fade away
the energy stripped; a frozen day?
To wake with clear eyes
woman as empty as man
no greater feelings left now
this is more than I can stand
that damned dream gave so much
the promise of something great
of love of endless depth
above all this fear and hate
How could a dream be so strong
to make life feel so wrong
and the colour of life fade away
the energy stripped; a frozen day?
Now a hollow life is all
I cannot hope for more
no love will pull back the curtain
or open the door
alone into this we come
and henceforth we walk
this delusion of romance
in solitude we all stalk
How could a dream be so strong
to make life feel so wrong
and the colour of life fade away
the energy stripped; a frozen day?
Expect the heart to dry
and the flick of snakes tongue
nothing of love is touched
no homage is sung
that bewitching dream
of deepest love is fake
it is a mockery on life
to the reality we wake.
