Love before your pain

Contributed by blugurl6 on Wednesday, 31st July 2002 @ 01:38:38 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

No matter what they say,
You feel as if you are right.
No matter what they say,
You say there is love before your pain.
He doesn't say he's sorry.
I never heard him say he loves you.
Please listen to me friend,
There is no love before your pain.
You leave him once again.
You come to me for my extra shoulder.
I try to calm you don't,
I do my best to dry your tears.
But the worst then happens.
He calls you and you talk.
An hour passes, I go to you...
Why are you packing?
You say you forgive him,
That no one can keep you apart.
You say he'll never do it again.
But why don't you believe me,
There is no love before your pain.
Not even a week has passed,
And you call me deep into the night.
You cry and apologize,
How could you have been so blind??
You come to me,
You don't look the same.
Of course not!!
You were with him.
But I try to change the subject.
I look beyond your face,
I try again to tell you,
There is no love before pain.
But the worst then happens.
He calls you and you talk.
An hour passes, I go to you...
Why are you packing?
You say he wants commitment.
He wants to have your baby.
What kind of father will he be!?!?
Leave it to you to find out.
I cry for you,
Because I know your pain.
But it is your life,
I can't stop you.
Not even a week has passed,
And you call me deep into the night.
Half in shock I go pick you up,
I find you and take you home.
I scream out loud,
I don't mean to but I'm scared.
You tell me not to worry,
You tell me you won't return.
But the worst then happens.
He calls you and you talk.
An hour passes, I go to you...
Why are you packing?
You tell me to mind my own,
That's it's no one's business but yours and his.
You don't sound like yourself,
What is he doing to you friend??
A month has passed,
I have not heard from you.
Your family is worried,
And so am I, my friend.
A year has passed,
No one has heard from you.
Please come home, we miss you,
And we love you dearly.
Finally a letter.
I open it only to fall into pieces.
You are dead my friend.
Why did you let this happen??
All in black we stand here.
I miss you greatly,
But now you know,
There was no love before your pain.

Domestic violence is horrible. I also have a lot of poems that I have written about abuse. I was abused myself in a relationship and I have found that a lot of that fear and addiction to being told how to live and what to wear and how to act and being punished is what drives most people to go back again and again and again. Thank you for sharing this piece. I think that you'll be intrested in my 2 pieces "That Summer" and "Why is HE Here?" Thank you for sharing this piece!!! It's a message that needs to be heard!

This is so true. And Domestic Violence applies to both sexes and children.
