Revelling in the lights,
resplendent, shimmering and gleaming,
forget the pain of this blight,
and finally start dreaming.
My mind's phantasms take their course,
fantastical beasts stampeding,
this measure of innocence has no recourse,
in reality receding.
Martyrs and saints absolve us,
practicing fine absolution,
when magic reaches a surplus,
and holds no solution.
Drifting down-stream solemnly,
the water's silvery reflection,
many strange thoughts follow me,
requiring closer inspection.
They present the ideals of the past,
in silent conjuration,
but such insights fail to last,
facilitate closer investigation.
A holy night insists,
with hardly a sound,
that pain and doubt desist,
and happiness resound.
Calling our bluff,
within a twinkling of the eye,
our heads are filled with fanciful stuff,
our waking hours deny.
So recline in deep repose,
calming with a langourous gaze,
as Eros becomes the rose,
and princely sights amaze.
