Love perches within our soul. Yet when everyone’s asleep we ask all that care or listen, “What is love? Is it a robin in her nest feeding her babies? Is it a red heart that our sister or brother drew? Is it a Sunset? Is it a Sunrise? Is it baby’s first breath? Is it kissing, hugging, and holding hands? Is it someone fighting cancer? What is it?” Two years have gone by now and I’m holding my Father’s hand. He smiles and talks to all his family. My cousin died in war two years ago while engaged. He said in his last breath, “What is love? Is it a robin in her nest feeding her babies? Is it a red heart that our sister or brother drew? Is it a Sunset? Is it a Sunrise? Is it baby’s first breath? Is it kissing, hugging, and holding hands? Is it someone fighting cancer? What is it?”.
Two weeks after I’m standing by my father’s new home; under the dirt; and I think of my cousin. Then I wonder, “Will we know? Will we ever find out what it is?”
Thus, if God damned me then I will never know. And I wonder, did he?
What if heavens question to enter is the same question I ask all along?
So therefore, if that be I’m doomed! And while I lay in the labor bed, dying from giving my son life! With my all my will I ask, “What is love? Is it a robin in her nest feeding her babies? Is it a red heart that our sister or brother drew? Is it a Sunset? Is it a Sunrise? Is it baby’s first breath? Is it kissing, hugging, and holding hands? Is it someone fighting cancer? What is it?” My cousin died in war twenty-two years ago while engaged. And before I shut my eye’s for all eternity and let death take me I see him shaking his head and before I could hear my son’s answer I was forced into eternal sleep…
