oops
|
you always held my hand
you always whispered those words
you always made those promises
that one day we'd run away
you kept that hand so close to my throat
you never let me out of your sight
at least for a little while
then i became your burden
carried with resentment
i knawed at the chains
to end my loveless prison
you pulled tighter
and with a bullet to the stomach
you set me free
i dragged my bloody corpse
the oncoming traffic a haven from you
or so i thought
to my devastation i felt that pull again
again and again
i looked for the chains
i looked for the reason
finally i saw
it was my own hand holding the chain
i saw the cage around me
i stayed silent as i watched myself
throw the keys into a lake of black hatred
locksmiths always around, offering me escapes
but a skilled illusionist i became
until they no longer stared
it would return
and my emptiness took comfort
in its cold isolation
