Forgotten Conquest

You laid claim to my heart,
conquistador in the sand.
" I claim this for love!"
" IT'S MINE! Conquered land!"
Will you never relenquish
this deed that you hold?
These rights to a purchase
not rightly sold.
The windows long boarded,
doors barred and locked tight.
Cobwebs in the rafters
bereft of all light.
How long must I suffer
these arrows, these slings?
Outrageous misfortune
has clipped both my wings.
I wish to fly higher.
To soar in the sun.
Like Iccarus post lesson,
my flying is done.
I hang from a cliff
by links forged in pain.
One chance of salvation,
to fall once again.

wonderful words placed together.
each word pulls the message in tighter.
( love the line, "One chance of salvation,
to fall once again".
nice flow ... nice work ! |
