The cell’s tenant, waits her time
Years long since freedom’s breath
Unending time ‘fore manumission’s chime
Resurrection from, an untimely death
Chains shattered, forged from pain
The jailer’s taunts, no longer heard
Smells of dissent have lost their gain
Released from all appeals demurred
The light of day, burns her eyes
Agony of all, joy scales the skin
Breezes of life, a chance to revise
Burden shed, of lonely chagrin
Life, love and very own pursuit
Enfin, free to pluck life’s lute

Steve, I agree with Michelle. There is a bittersweetness to this, but it screams
of freedom!! And that is something we all wish for but at the same time, take
for granted. I adore the last two lines. They are somehow magical ~
