As I step out of the truck, I'm glad I've come back again
On a stone pedestal stands the Mother of God in the rain
As a duck and run for the giant oaken doors
I step inside, the familiar scent of incense fills the air
I'm at home here, in this darkly beautiful, candle-lit lair
I dip my finger in the font and cross myself
There are others here also, so I wait my turn
I kneel in my pew, and watch the candles burn
But my focus is on God
Christ on the cross above the sanctuary altar
Looks at me and promises to pick me up if I falter
So I'm happy today
Turn by turn, they get up and go in the booth
Statuesque Saint Joseph tells me not to stay aloof
Too often; I like it here afterall
The statues, candles and flowers, all remind me of why I'm here
I'm here to remember God's mercy, and to remember that He's near
As close as the tabernacle
So at last my turn comes, and It's time to go in
And say to the screen, "bless me father, for I have sinned"
And I say what I've done
When I was younger, I thought, what a drag!
But then, as my life with God started to lag
I understood it all
Leaving that confessional, I leave my sin behind
I'm happy and free, and joy has filled my mind
I'm going to do better this time
And I remember John twenty, verse twenty-two and twenty three
And am glad that through a sinful man, God has now forgiven me
As I step out and promise to do better
