Found dad in the bathroom
pants down around knees
head smashed against tiles,
Mom never did like from day one.
Claiming they didn’t match
canary yellow bowl installed
one Easter vacation by him and me.
When bonding was still a possibility.
Informed mom he had this smile on his face
like that fist time he saw the baby
his grandson.
No suffering here you could see,
no suffering.
Mom on the other hand was a 3AM call
informing us we’d lost her ten minutes earlier
to a painless but never the less
deadly angina attack,
like there could be such an animal.
Death’s never painful when it comes.
It’s always gentle and kind,
as they whose job it is to inform us,
would have us believe.
