An Apology for Lethargy

Of course I know the consequences,
Overt wastefulness and pride.
But naught compares t’the pain of knowing,
It’s no fun to be alive.
Yet even so, I laugh, I live,
Drinking deeply bitter wine.
But all the while, labored breathing,
My safety’s slowly dying.
Expect of me all you desire
While yellow flags of warning wave.
But disappointment’s wounds are dire,
This lesson is not learned, but braved.
All who’ve breathed the fire know this.
They’ve seen the flames lick ‘cross their floor.
Seen fire char their mirror-image,
Consuming much, but wanting more.
Entropy became my master,
No longer was I building floors.
I smiled as all fell to ruin,
I thought it time to close some doors.
But now I read the fire hazard,
Slow learning lessons which long have mattered.
T’would seem my fate I had been sealing;
One needs a floor, it’s not a ceiling.
