Frank was laid to rest today,
his widow given the flag
they draped over the coffin.
She the widow tearfully whispered to me
as I approached her for that obligatory
sympathy hug and kiss.
“Franks in heaven now with God at peace”.
But somehow I doubt he was going in that direction,
miserable bastard that he was all his life.
Still I hugged her tightly and told her.
“He was a good man, and good neighbor”.
I think she knows I’m full of *****,
and in the long run.
That’s all anyone could hope for here.

I like the way the poem itself is quite forthright but the guy in the poem attending Frank's funeral was full of censored. I guess like they say, there's a time and place for everything and Frank's funeral wasn't the time and place to be honest. |
