Bleeding Road, Memories Lane

The crevices between stones like bloody veins did run
As dark as midnight that so successfully blocks out the sun
Upon the trodden stones flowed silver and chrome
Illuminating a man’s path wherever he so chose to roam
Embraced by the moonbeams that rained forth from midnight’s shroud
While angels watched from cathedral arches and Heaven’s cloud
Upon buildings and streets shown no color, only shades of gray and black
For nothing did his lonely eyes see except for that which his own life did lack
As memories flooded a mournful mind of a love held and lost
Though years had passed they had never been forgotten but his sanity they did cost
Every night he dreamt of fleeting kisses and an embrace that was never thought to end
For it was his undying love for her that upon a stagnant breeze to Heaven’s gates did send
And with each breath he took moved him one step closer to an unmarked grave
For no memories did he want to leave behind for to his love he had become a slave
And night after night no slumber awaited his weary head
As those memories once again haunted his troubled soul with every word she had said
His bloodshot eyes revealed a longing for a lost kiss, for a lost embrace
And for the day Heavenly gates would open for him and he would once more see her perfect face
So before the moon and stars set he said,”I am sorry but to live without you I tried.”
As in a trembling hand he took his best friend, a silver blade, and cut the final thread and died.
