Who am I?
I sit on the porch,
staring into the sun and wondering.
Is there fertile ground left in my heart,
for a seed of love to grow?
Many time I have put a fire to my heart,
to burn the ache away.
To erase everything that once made me feel loved,
to forget all the pain.
But now I sit and feel the sun on my face,
and wonder if I can really ever love like I use too.
For will the scars on my heart,
always push me towards caution?
I sit and ponder,
watching couple walk by hand in hand.
I hope that one day,
I can wear the smile I see on there face.
To be one with another,
to know that you are alone no more.
To feel joy in everyday,
and know that there is more to this world.
But I look at the black that coats my heart,
and wonder if I could ever be clean again.
If the terrible nightmares and shame will ever come off,
or am I doomed to always put a fire to my heart.
There is so much room,
so much space in my heart.
I have so much love to give,
I just don't know who to give it to.
I hope the doubts will fade,
and trust can return.
To this wounded heart,
that beats within my chest.
