Annus mirabilis (year of wonders)

I have walked many roads, and many nights have scooped up my vision, spread thin my blood with fear, and pressed my voice to whisper silently in prayer.
I have seen midnight in the storm walking across downed electrical wires, heavy with fatigue, wishing for a warm place to sleep, or a way to go home.
I have seen the sun withdrawing in the valley of the mountains higher than the sky, I have seen the glory of the valley untouched and I have drunk of its stillness, and I too fell stilled.
I have touched tender and lenient eyes with pouting and bold lips that in my desire were seemingly inflamed, but were unclenched by time, and drawn back in anger and pain.
I have seen a daughter lose her mother, and as she failed and wept and wailed, I turned away, unmoved, unshaken, I turned my back.
