Come listen to me and you’ll be told
Of the past, the present, the Eire of old
Milesians came warring to seek to seek out the land
Of the Firbolgs fighting the Tuatha De Danann
Amergin the bard, Cu Chullain so true
Of Cormac MacArt and king Brian Boru
Fionn and the Fian who tread the Old Sod
And blessed is St. Patrick who turned them to God
Drogheda destroyed from Cromwell’s abuse
A fate that was suffered far worse than the noose
Sitting in camp, with his men drinking ale
He sent orphans running to live past the Pale
With rising’s a plenty, rebellion’s struck down
How many had perished beneath Britain’s crown
Famine brought plague on the old and the young
And death almost conquered the land’s native tongue
Yet the Fenian’s brought forth great men of renown
Like “the Big Fellow” Collins of Clonakilty town
The country divided but well on it’s way
To the Irish republic we see today
The talking of peace, agreements a must
If only both sides could sit down in trust
Nothing is gained clinging onto the past
Just move on to see Eire united at last
