These words don’t come easy…they never did
The dark was always easier, ever since I was a kid
It still never evolved with the passing of time
Don’t want to force words, and I hate to force rhyme
Life is a puzzle...and those missing pieces are the memories that last
The puzzle comes alive with the thoughts of the past
A ghost or a demon, a chalk line trace
And the empty spots are moments, to which you can not erase
I spent many years, trying to find
The answers to what my heart couldn’t find
Emptiness sat, in the core of my soul
A storm of darkness, to which I couldn’t control
I used to think that the past was a grave
Of unanswered questions, that my mind did not crave
The past and the present, now together to see
These are the parts that created me
I buried you many years ago
When I was much younger, and I just didn’t know
The path I would take, the trials of the heart
Betrayals and heartache, the missing part
Alone in the mountains, was left for dead
Where the road to survival lead to my past instead
Entered a room where the ghosts don’t chase me
And I cheer for the death of the enemy…
that existed in my mind
And as more pieces fall in their places
I found warmer thoughts, and familiar faces
The past has a place in everyone’s life
The pain and the triumphs etched with a knife
Onto your soul, where the memories last
And the puzzle complete, reassembled your past
Or the pieces lie scattered, a job incomplete
And the picture lies hidden, as history repeats
And the ghosts come alive as you sink in defeat
I found what I needed to make it feel right
No more unanswered questions in the midst of the night
The story now written, and put on the shelf
At peace in my mind, at peace with myself
I chased the past from coast to coast...
Now I’m no longer chasing ghosts….

I guess the past is what makes us what we are.
I really like this poem. It so brings together a list of life experience and is so distraught throughout until it is so nicely wrapped up a twist to an inspiring end.
Very nicely done.
Take care and blessings to you.
