An absent sky

Topic: LovePoetry

When I remember her, I remember the white, translucent fields that spread across the belly of an undulating sky as the touch of her tears were unleashed in the crumbling towers of our entwined tongues that like the stars gradually fade from the morning sky, and upon their dismissal, reflect the distance of our lives.

Love was not enough for us, walking downtown in the rain, auburn leaves surrounded us and whispered dreams of love that would conquer us in time and waylay our hands before they intertwined, and subjugate the lies that hid beneath the rise of tender and doting kisses.

My thoughts drift to the colorless eyes of childhood, of a surging tide eluding the brazen and sharp stones of the shore. As a child, I would play among the debris of an eerie and departed storm, never coming to realize the significance that the sand and the stone would hold in my life. For like the stones that shatter and change their form beneath the coming tide, my heart shattered also, and changed with the coming surge of manhood, and of love, and of all the glory and pain that those things bring.

In those thoughts, she is the thunder and the sun, the fast oncoming wave of an ancient and deserted sea, and she is the moonlight at the crown of an unfolding dawn, the stars of an absent sky.

In the moment’s pause that my thoughts rest, her thoughts walk casually by, and as my dreams descend, her dreams lift and set to fly over ancient and deserted seas.
