A Valediction forbidding mourning or a wakeful musing.

A Valediction forbidding mourning
or a wakeful musing.

When I am dead & passed away
When my soul again has melted to clay.
Where only my bones remain and when
parched, decay.

What will shroud the turf where I interminably stay?
Will it be barren in mourning for my suffering,
Or fetid, and warm, rich and fertile in honour of my gluttony.

Shall it sulphorous bubble as my anger always?
Or silent sting the ear
In howling homage to my fear?

Will the head stone stand fast like
My own hard heart? Selfish and
Demanding of myself till the last.

Will the birds sing around intricate
At the secret designs of my lifes
significance?

Will the worms grow fat, bookish and
Wise from the pursuits of my labours
And the words I devised?

Will the rot set as mould? Like desires
That dwindled for want, as cold ashes
That once in my eyes were fires?

Will I only remain as the sum of my arts?
That weakly fell and lay,
Broken, that wept apart.

Shall I waste and waste away
In dwelling on the pursuits of this
Inevitable day?

If only for that plot do I rise each day
Who could ever sing while dying in a
Universe at play?

I must sing flowering in seasons to the grave
Or fall to sleep always as follies slave.

There is time for rest and rising
Sadness still and tears worth crying.

There are words to spin
As the planet does,
And no waste will there be where I'm lying.
When the words are remembered in passing love.

another spectacular piece. it was stylish and incredibly visual, and had an abstract feel. an enjoyable read.

The title was so perfect for this poem.

Philosophical, deep, thought provoking and leaves the reader in a pondering state of mind.

"Will I only remain as the sum of my arts?
That weakly fell and lay,
Broken, that wept apart"

That touched my very heart and made me ponder.

Great poetry seems to do that.

5 stars.
