~The Sights And Sounds Of Carnival~

Contributed by Jenni_K on Saturday, 21st February 2009 @ 12:34:33 PM in AEST
Topic: Patriotic

~~^~~

It’s finally here!
Carnival is one big ‘lime’
Our island goes wild

Anticipating
The freedom of carnival
Of two fun filled days

Splendor of the sun
Faces of pure ecstasy
In sweltering heat

Steel-pan music plays
Revelers flooding the streets
Jumping to the beat

Masqueraders “wine “
Skimpy costumes seems a must
Nakedness abounds.

A sea of color
Brilliant blues and raging reds
All blended as one

Saturday before
Children have their special day
All join in the fun.

Few days earlier
The competitions took place
Winners celebrate.

Calypso was sweet
Alcohol gone to their heads
Time for the ‘last lap’

At midnight Tuesday
Euphoria will be over
We return to life

~~^~~
“lime”- Party
“wine”- the local word for gyrate

Anywho... nice lil tribute you got goin' on here. I like the imagery.

Take care,

Tim

Once upon a time I saw those masqueraders with faces of pure ecstasy..
in a rio carnival..in one of the news chanels.
Then I studied the background of that culture also, though I forgot what I read.
..Thanks Jenni, for sharing this. :-)venkat

In my mind, I was there! It must be wondrous, fun, colorful and with laughter and smiles everywhere!

Your mind is so broad in it's ability to write. You can write something sad and I tear up, write something sensitve and my heart pulls toward the words and write something with flourish and I sit and smile--seeing it my mind and wishing carnival was in my world..

I can never see room for improvement in your poetry. I guess I just see a really talented person, with many years experience whom I like to read.

And, I did like this one. :)
