Empty Bottles

Contributed by ItsMeNow on Saturday, 21st February 2009 @ 11:12:24 AM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

Why do you seek to hurt me when you’ve already broken me down?

It seems you just can’t leave it alone; you don’t want the pieces of me to be found.

When you said we were through it destroyed me, but you don’t think that’s enough.

Waging all out war on my emotions, your attacks are immeasurably hard to rebuff.

At moments of time in my weakness I find myself still calling your name.

And at my strongest of times I am fragile, it takes this bottle to help me maintain.

But every sip it brings me much closer, to the inevitable and I just won’t learn.

That each glass that I empty so soon will be full, and empty bottles won’t make you return.

So I sit at this bar with self pity rightly so I lament in great pain.

Remembering all of the times that we said we would last till the last drop is all that remains…

I really love this write. Sadly there are so many people that can achingly relate to this very situation. There is hope within the empty bottles...But it's false hope..You sound like you have it figured out in your line "..,and empty bottles won't make you return."
I too have drown my sorrow in liquid encouragement..it never got me far...yet sometimes i still do..It must just be the way we we're made...This was verry well written.

You have such a talent for words. This poem conveys so much sadness and longing but is still beautifully crafted. Love is lost to be found and I hope that you are able to find the path you are meant for and true happiness...

If you find the time, I've posted my first true attempt at poetry, entitled THE END. I'd appreciate any feedback or comments. Thank you and keep up the good work, I've truly enjoyed reading your poems.
