My blood freezes
my body, still as stone.
My blankets, warn against my face,
while my insides are as cold as the condensation on the window.
Feeling my stomach toss over,
as my five year old mind sees shadows that don't exist.
The wind from the window whispers in my ear,
telling me that it's not going to be alright.
My bed, soft as cement,
as warm as the winter frost,
but my body, as cold as the earth's core,
as I continue to sweat out this mind sickness.
Paranoia controls me. I can't think straight.
Frightened by the creaking of this old house,
the clawing of creatures outside my window,
the monster that lives under my bed at night,
and the open closet door.
the clown sitting on the chair by the door grins
watching me as I look back and forth.
I examine it,
noticing that it is only a sweatshirt,
with a wrinkle impersonating a face.
My body quakes as my heart beat races.
My mind races as I see the door.
The knob slightly turns.
I hide my face as if the monster won't see me.
Curiosity, I look up
to see only mother walking in.
My heart beat slows down as she says "Sweet Dreams."
And kisses me goodnight.
