I'm Not Asking for Forgiveness

Contributed by flamingblade on Friday, 13th February 2009 @ 12:13:14 PM in AEST
Topic: ApologyPoetry

I know I'm not perfect
I don't need to be
The pressure to try slowly builds
though it's not something you can see.
I do a lot wrong,
and usually I regret.
But I learn the lessons early,
so I'm far less likely to forget,
to watch my back,
and let no one in,
because once I break,
I may not fit back together again.
But I'm not asking for forgiveness.
If you want to blame,
go ahead.
I'm a real person,
and I'm tired of your games.
I'm not the same now,
as i was before.
There are changes I'm going through now
and they are ones I can't ignore.
Yes, a lot of my values have changed,
and surely I'll never be the same,
but I'm not asking for forgiveness.
And as I lay on my back,
I hope you notice how I lack
a spark of fear from your raised hands.
And as you swing them down, and they land,
I hope you finally realize
from the small defiant look in my eyes,
I'm not asking for forgiveness.
Though I may be a failure in this life
I'll never ask for forgiveness.

Sometimes the best apology is to prostrate yourself.....expose your underside and accept the blows as they come. To flagellate oneself usually doesn't impress either...
Very strong poem,
Very, deep message...

Amazingly powerful poem, but I don't quite agree. Why will you 'never ask for forgiveness'? Still, one of the best poems I've ever read...this is great!!!
