Victorian Bush fires 2009
I awoke in the morning, still tired and yawning
I here a sound that I should take as a warning.
I walked out the back door, to look at my view
To my horror, all I see is a red hue.
The flames were so big and red
I knew if I didn’t leave now I’d soon be dead
Oh what to do, I can’t think straight, there is so much going on in my head.
Am I a man or a mouse
I need to stay and protect my house.
I raced to grab the hose to stem the fire
But as I got closer the flames were getting higher and higher.
They were getting closer and closer to my beautiful place
The heat was so intense it was starting to burn my face.
The thought came into my head again, stay and fight this fire to protect my house
But as hard as I tried, this fire I could not douse.
I have done what I could
But my house was made of wood.
It is now starting erupt in flames
I thought to myself, this is not the time for heroic games.
Grab your stuff and leave this fiery hell
Or should I stay and jump in my well.
These mixed emotions are back in my head
I guess I waited too long because now the flames have got me, and now I’m…………
