Answer me: what's the difference -
Between imitation and a
Carbon copy?
Defying you, I'll do
Everything I can, if you're one of those that
Feel and believe -
Great writers are meant for duplication in your own
Handwriting; and
Imitated for your own learning gain.
Just like Poe, and Dickinson -
Kids disturbed,
Lonely.
Making their own mad genius.
Not unlike you;
Only you listen to them
Plaigerism as a lesson plan.
Question the authorities? Never.
Revealing one
Sad fact,
That you'll never measure
Up to those
Victorious greats.
Writers who stood;
Xiled.
You won't be one of them, until you become
Zigzagged; among those bent on straight lines.
[Author's Note: many teachers use imitation as a form of learning, especially in english and art. while i agree, it's an effective way to learn, and a good way for teachers to check a student's understanding... i do not agree with the idea that imitation is a good way to form your own style. how can one be creative and unique only by re-creating what's already been done? combining other, already-used styles - maybe. but otherwise it's not their style, it's simply a 2.0 version of the original. i wrote this as a disagreements; and instead of a sonnet or freewrite, i decided on an alphabet.]

Thank you for writing this. I appreciate the sentiment, and it was clearly articulated.
I find it scary how poetry is taught in schools. Everyone in my English class recently presented some creative writing. Some of the fluff that passed for poetry was truly scary. |

Imitation the sincerest form of flattery
Much to be said for your write here
But flying on your own is a talent one must learn
no matter what you think I doubt they’re any poets out there
worth their salt that haven’t sat in a class room and suffered thought stuff they though they could do better do different
Ever hear that saying “first you must learn walk
before learning to run .
Few if any come out of the womb a polished anything. |
