In Mourning

My head to his chest;
I feel a steady, rhythmic beating --
My heart -- out of sync --
must have missed a beat.
It is empty, lifeless.
The bumping, thumping, pumping
of red-hot, circulating blood
has come to a stop.
A deep, black abyss remains
under this too too sullied flesh
devoid of natural indications
of human existence
--and of love.
without love, without breath
denotes the finality of just being
This is what it’s like to be dead alive in the morning.
Bump,
Bump.
Bump,
Bump.
