Pretty Girls Have Problems Too.

Contributed by anomalei on Saturday, 24th January 2009 @ 05:06:38 PM in AEST
Topic: anguished

i don't want to be

Beautiful.

if you'll only look at me.
with the dumb little smirk,
that quirky-cute-grin.
like you're afraid to touch me.
as if beauty is fragile.

i don't want your word association
with me, to be -
'Pretty'.

i want something more profound.

if a glance at me,
forces your lips to utter -

"isn't she the most beautiful
Thing
you've ever seen?"

i don't want it.
i don't want to be seen, like a 'thing'.

don't put me in that
'Beautiful Girl' category
just free-moving objects, for your gazing pleasure

'things' that are nice
to look at;
but they're unreal,
and untouchable.
they don't speak ugly thoughts
or ever disagree.

as you'll soon discover -
i don't have that, two-dimensional
Beauty.

that's not me.

i'm more to see, and hear!
there's more behind my face.
my face is only a mask.
another world lies, beyond my

Dear eyes, and my
Pretty little hands.

things i've ruined by crying them to redness,
and by letting them crack with the dry winter air.

would you even care to know,
Me
if i wore an Ugly mask?

I hear where you are coming from. It's hard for some people to grasp that a pretty girl should be sad about something, yet a lot of pretty girls feel that they are unapproachable in some way, like others are "not good enough" for them.
Well you have shown that you have more than a "cute grin" by allowed us to see the inner beauty of your poetry.

very thought provoking indeed. there have been times where i have been guilty of admiring the outside, without caring about the inside. however i have come to think that beauty is a 'package'. it is the outside and the inside, intelligence, depth and humour are just as important as beauty. seeing someone just for their beauty is like looking at the front cover of a novel, but not reading it. a very intelligent, poignant poem.

I enjoyed the read
I think anyone that reads this
has to walk away from it
with some new thoughts on this subject

you've captured the sublties of a profound
human testing ground. . . I loved this.

beauty spoke to truth
& said " I'm here for you to see."
truth replied to beauty
saying " I'm here for you to be."
& now constant companions,
the two are known to please.

peace. elle

This writing had me thinking and believe me you dont want to get the Bin thinking as most know on this site..lol.
It made me understand that even perfect has flaws entwined in it. I see beauty much different than before. Thanks so much for sharing.

wow i love it, especially the ending with, "would you even care to know me, if i wore an ugly mask." it's so simple, yet weirdly complicated. it's awesome!
